Hysterics at what dad asks daughter about Pilates classes
A dad based in The Bronx got the wrong idea about his daughter's Pilates classes this week, leaving viewers in hysterics.
In a clip posted by Lizzie (@lizziedushaj) on TikTok, she sits next to her father in the car and looks off into the distance with a slight smirk on her face. She revealed in the text overlay that her dad had just asked her what she learns about in her Pilates classes.
Lizzie, 26, explained that her dad, an Albanian immigrant, isn't particularly familiar with the world of health and wellness—and certainly not with boutique fitness trends such as Pilates. "He also does not workout himself," she told Newsweek.
Lizzie, also based in The Bronx, New York, wrote in her caption that when she told her dad how much Pilates costs, he asked, "Why don't you do that at home?" Behind the clip, TikTok users can hear the lyrics "and you don't understand" from Beyoncé's If I Were A Boy.
It's no wonder Tom was curious about what his daughter could be "learning" in a Pilates class, especially given the cost. In New York City, Pilates classes can run anywhere from $30 to $50 per session, with some studios charging even more for private lessons. For someone unfamiliar with the practice, the expense might raise eyebrows.
Despite the cost, Lizzie is committed to her Pilates routine. Attending classes 2 to 3 times a week, she credits Pilates with helping her stay consistent with fitness for the first time. "I was never really into fitness before trying Pilates... and I really love it," she said.
Lizzie's clip has been viewed over 469,000 times and received more than 54,000 likes. Many other Pilates enthusiasts commented and shared how some can misjudge what the workout really is.
"My dad thinks it's just stretching," one wrote. "I had this exact conversation with my dad last week," another laughed.
In relation to the hefty price tag that often comes with Pilates sessions, @julzinthewild commented, "After my studio raised their prices this week, I'm asking the same questions."
"Other Pilates girls relate and mention they've had similar conversations with their dads," Lizzie told Newsweek.
It's safe to say Tom won't be signing up to a reformer Pilates class anytime soon.
