Golden retriever’s first time meeting a lamb melts hearts: “beautiful”

An unlikely friendship between a lamb and a golden retriever has melted hearts across the internet.

In the heartwarming footage, Franklin (@hey_its_franklin__) eagerly bounds around the garden, licking the lamb’s face with pure affection. The video, which has accumulated over 20,000 likes and nearly 205,000 views, showcases the precious bond between the two animals.

The text overlay on the video reads: “Franklin’s first time meeting lamb,” adding: “So gentle,” while the caption simply states: “Crying.”

Franklin’s account has been posting content since October last year, with earlier videos showing the adorable pup’s training regime during his first few months with his family. Later videos show the retriever racing along beaches, digging huge holes, and generally being cute and scrappy.

While it’s not every day you see a lamb and a dog becoming fast friends, dogs can be beneficial companions for sheep. According to AgNet West farm radio network, the right animals can offer security and companionship for livestock.

Horses, llamas and goats are often used as companions for livestock, and certain dog breeds—if properly trained and supervised—can also provide this kind of bond. Careful supervision and training are essential, but it can result in a harmonious and safe relationship.

The Blue Cross says that when introduced properly and taught to behave calmly around livestock, dogs can co-exist peacefully with animals like sheep.

Franklin and the lamb’s interaction is testament to the possibility of companionship between species, given the right conditions.

Golden retrievers, known for their loyalty, intelligence and calm temperament, are particularly well-suited to such relationships. As highlighted by the PDSA, they are one of the most popular breeds due to their ability to get along with people and animals alike, making them excellent companions in diverse settings.

The loving connection between Franklin and his new lamb friend captivated viewers. One user, Genevieve, said: “Isn’t it funny how different animals of different species can get along, ignoring their differences! Some humans could learn a lot from them.”

Another user expressed admiration for animals’ natural ability to form bonds, saying: “We don’t deserve animals.”

“Franklin’s like ‘this is an odd-looking dog for sure, but he’s my friend!'” joked another viewer.

“They’re both so gentle with each other. We’ve just witnessed the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” remarked another fan, while a final comment simply read: “Absolutely beautiful.”
