Robert De Niro plays two roles in new film from Goodfellas screenwriter

Robert De Niro returns to the big screen next month in a new film from Barry Levinson called The Alto Knights, which follows a duo of Italian Americans who run two separate crime families, a tale inspired by real events that happened in the mid-20th century.
De Niro will be – once again – wrapping his mouth around words by GoodFellas screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, who pens the screenplay for The Alto Knights, a project that is said to have been in the works from Pileggi since the '70s.
Five decades later, it has made its way through production, now set for a March 21 release date, and the first trailer has arrived, giving us a sampling of what to expect from De Niro in these dual roles.
We first meet Vito Genovese, who is heading to a sit-down chat with Frank Costello amidst a lavish bar, where Costello is waiting with a coffee and cigarette in hand.
Their first conversation introduces the tension in the film, with snapshots of the chaos that has run amok throughout New York City, likely at the hands of their misdoings.
Most of the two-minute trailer is absorbed in their conversation before some dramatic cutaways to what we can expect from the rest of the film: grand houses, courtrooms, and plenty of shots fired.
Said to be about "The Mob Boss who brought about the downfall of the American Mafia", The Alto Knights has lined up an all-star cast to tell this epic tale, with Cosmo Jarvis, Debra Messing, and Kathrine Narducci joining De Niro.
The Alto Knights is in theaters on March 21, 2025.
